Williamsville, NY (April 19, 2017) This weekends IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala. will present a series of first. The event will mark the inaugural appearance of the IPCM cars as well as Paul Fix’s and the Ave-Riley AR2 LMP3 car initial visit to the tantalizing 2.38 mile circuit. The race weekend presents event two of the 2017 championship tour, races three and four, as part of the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.
The season started in March at Sebring International Raceway for the #44 Stop Flex/CarCoach/Fueling US Forward/Techron/Lynch Foundation Ave-Riley AR2. Fix and the Ave crew completed all the required laps of both IPCM races. The car showed promise en route to securing two top ten finishes.
Said Fix, “We are certainly pleased with the effort and results garnered at Sebring. The car got faster as the weekend progressed. I was able to run competitively throughout the field of cars.”
Barber will offer its own unique challenges, primarily the narrow layout and limited passing opportunities. The agile AR2 chassis will be up to the task.
“The team was able to scrutinize the data after Sebring and formulate a plan of attack for Barber,” offered Fix. “They haven’t rested in preparing the car and we intend to continue our climb up the results sheet.”
“The Barber layout will define who has the finesse to work traffic in tight situations,” noted Fix. “I am looking forward to getting acquainted with the circuit and positioning ourselves to be in contention.”
The first of the two 45-minute IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda races will take the green flag at 3:45 p.m. CDT on Friday, April 21, while race two takes place Saturday at 12:00 p.m. That race will stream live from 11:50 to 12:45 p.m. CDT on IMSA.TV.
Delayed television coverage of the IMSA Prototype Challenge Races at Barber Motorsports Park will be provided on May 4, 2017 on Fox Sports 2 (FS2). The broadcast will also be available on YouTube 24 hours after it airs on television.
